The West African examinations Council (WAEC), has announced an adjustment of the dates for the on-going November/December General Certificate Examinations for private candidates.
The Head National Office of the examination body, Mr. Charles Eguridu, said that the adjustment in the time frame was to enable Muslim candidates to celebrate the impending Sallah festival.
He said: “We are aware of the yearnings and aspirations of Nigerians, and particularly the protest by Muslim students who had earlier alleged that the original date fell on Friday, which is an important calendar date for the Muslim worshippers. Our attention has been drawn to these concerns. The Chairman called my attention to it and we have no choice than to shift the exam dates from September 25th to October 10th to address the concerns of Muslim candidates.”
Eguridu denied that the organisation was insensitive to the yearnings and aspirations of Nigerians, insisting that that was reason why the Council had to release the results of the indebted states.
